| About Us |
The Old Town Mission is a 501c3 nonprofit Christian Charity, serving the low-income and homeless population of the Sedona/Verde Valley community of Northern Arizona. The organization has a Twenty One year history of assisting its "neighbors in need" through a variety of services including: Day Resource Center offering food, clothing and hygiene products; hot lunches, showers and haircuts, Mission Free Vision Clinics; Free Legal Clinics; Mission Back-to-School Program and Holiday Food Programs & Special Events. Old Town Mission Compassion Division offers a full range of compassion services and emergency helps to meet the immediate needs of those struggling with poverty. Old Town Mission Vocational Industries is a division of our ministry focused on Job creation and training. Our concept is through social Enterprise we will share the love of God by providing employment, job and life skill training to disadvantaged individuals. This will be accomplished through the development of diverse businesses that simultaneously pursue a triple bottom line of spiritual, social and earned income returns on investment.
The Mission began in 1989 as a humble "soup-kitchen" style outreach, served from the back of a pick-up truck, in Old Town Cottonwood. The ultimate goal was to meet the basic needs of folks, while demonstrating God's love and encouragement, to assist them "up and out" of their circumstances relating to poverty. This "hands on" approach was inspired by the words of Jesus found in Mark 12:30-31, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind and with all your strength. And you shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these."
Today, the Old Town Mission occupies a 4000 sq ft facility, offering daily and weekly compassion services. It also operates a 5500 sq ft. Thrift Store. Mission Thrift Store not only helps to financially support Old Town Mission Compassion Services, it also allows us to be a witness of God's grace and love in the marketplace of our community as well as offer job and volunteer opportunities. Our desire is to offer very low pricing to support our community as it struggles through a very challenging economy. Old Town Mission Inc. operates under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operations Officer and 5 Member Board of Directors. Additional Staff includes: Operations Assistants, Day Resource Center Assistants, Financial Support, Facility Support, Thrift Store Manager and Thrift Store Support Staff. One of our greatest assets is found in our Volunteer Core, which exceeds 300 dedicated individuals annually.
