Volunteer

The Old Town Mission has a rich and valuable resource found in the unique talents and expertise of its volunteers. With over 120 volunteers annually, the Mission is able to offer a variety of specialized programs to its clients, with minimal cost to the organization. Volunteers and in-kind professionals are the backbone of the Mission Health Center, Free Legal Clinics, Day Resource Center, Back-to-School and Holiday Outreach programs. Mission Volunteers may choose to participate in the following activities…daily lunch meal, food preparations & service, administrative & receptionist duties, newsletter & bulk mailings, canned food packaging & distribution, clothing room, or special events & projects…to name just a few. Qualified health & legal professionals may inquire about serving in the Medical, Chiropractic, Vision or Legal clinics.

Here’s what our volunteers have to say about The Old Town Mission:

“The Old Town Mission is a great place to volunteer. They are dedicated to helping the homeless and working poor. It gives me great satisfaction to be able to help those who are less fortunate then I am. The folks that come for services are so grateful and I look forward to seeing them each time I volunteer.”

“I enjoy working at the Mission. I’m thankful that I can offer the abilities God has given me to help others who are in unfortunate straits due to personal hardship.

“At the OTM, I feel like I’m contributing some good for people who are having a difficult time and need a helping hand.”

“My greatest reward in volunteering at the Mission is to fulfill the admonitions of Jesus… to reach out to meet the needs of those who are hungry, thirsty, without a home, naked, sick or imprisoned…as described in Matt. 25:34-40.

“Volunteering at the Health Center is the highlight of my week! It is such a worthwhile program and has made a difference for so many who are struggling in low income and sickness”

“I am thankful to be a part of the Old Town Mission. Helping others has brought joy and meaning to my life. I am living out the Golden Rule to “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

“Working at the Mission gets me out of the house. I am new to the area and have met so many great people with a heart for their community and for others!”

“Volunteering at the Mission is very rewarding and fits into my busy schedule. I love the people and try to offer them a kind word of hope and encouragement, as well as a friendly smile. The Mission staff members are great to work with!”
